16' Old Town Canvas 'Peapod' Rowing Canoe
$3000 including Trailer and Gear
Excellent Restored
Built in 1955, this rare, comfortable, all-purpose rowing canoe is easy to handle, handsome in appearance, and steady on the water. It has cedar ribs currently covered with red canvas. There are 4 Shaw and Tenney oars included- two 6 1/2' and two 7 1/2' long, 2 pairs of metal oarlocks (U shaped and round) and a back rest. The canoe was restored by Rollin Thurlow (Northwoods Canoe) in 1990. This included a modification of the stern to create a small transom which accommodates a small outboard motor. This custom modification makes the boat even more versatile and elegant. According to Mr. Thurlow, there are very few Old Town boats of this model in this good of condition. The SN is 163973-16. It has been carefully stored indoors on a trailer. It is an ideal boat for the enjoyment of the whole family.
Condition: Excellent.
Location: mid-coast Maine.
Asking price $3000 including the boat trailer and gear.
Title: 1922 Old Town Canoe - Grade AA, Model: Ideal, #67141 - For Sale
Price: $1,500
Location: Dunedin, Florida
Description: In 1990, I saved this boat from going to the landfill. Both decks were rotten and the canvas in rough shape. It was restored in 1994 at the Canoe Shop in Tallahassee, Florida. They advised fiberglass instead of replacing the canvas saying (incorrectly) the salt water would destroy it. It has a step for a mast/sailing rig. Boat has been stored outside under a cover but the varnish and fiberglass needs to be repaired or replaced.
Condition: Needs Restoration (but paddleable)
Canoe motor mount and motor.
Old town motor in good condition. Sears electric motor, three speed and reverse. This is a vintage motor that works. Just needs a little cleaning. Would look great on a vintage canoe with the Old Town mount.

title - Old Town 1946 square stern canoe in superb original condition.
Price - Unsure of true value but am asking $5900 and will consider offers.
location - Boothbay, Maine
description - Built in 1946 for a Mr. Harvey of West Sullivan, Maine, and returned to the factory for repairs in May of 1964 according to the build card from the Old Town factory (copy furnished). I acquired her two years ago in pristine condition for her age, needing only a fresh coat of bottom paint and varnish. She is completely dry and motors very nicely with only 4hp. My understanding is she was barn stored for years, and she looks it! I have no knowledge of how many of these were constructed, but few enough I suspect, and fewer, if any, remaining. So a square stern of this vintage in this condition with the beautiful long deck and special order rear side seat probably make her one of a kind.
condition - I would consider her in excellent original condition, showing only minor nicks for all her years.
Restorable 1953 Old Town Square Stern Rowboat w/Trailer
$700 or best offer
Damariscotta (midcoast) Maine
This is a gem for anyone interested in restoring a wood and canvas boat. It's a 1953 Old Town 16' Square Stern rowboat/skiff. The Old Town catalog indicates that this boat can be used with at 2.5 to 10 HP motor.
Most of the wood is in good shape. In addition to the outside gunwale, I'm seeing two ribs and a few planks that would need to be replaced before recovering in canvas. The brass/bronze fittings are all there including the stem and keel bands and original swivel oarlocks, the latter being rare and expensive to replace. The boat originally came with sponsons, but as is the case with many other canoes and boats, these were removed by their owners.
Price includes Shoreline trailer in very good condition. It needs to have wiring replaced or repaired.
Needs restoration

Restoration project!
It was sold to a sporting goods store in Torrington, CT in 1930.
I did the dirty work of this project back in 2019. I have since gone in a different direction and am interested in finding someone who wants to take the project on.
What's happened so far:
+ stripped varnish
+ removed old rusty hardware
+ de-fiberglassed and sanded trouble spots
+ removed in and outwales, stem, seatposts
+ milled new 5/32" western red cedar planking
+ milled new center piece
+ milled gunnels
+ rough ribstock
+ roughed-out white oak stems
+ purchased canvas, paint, filler, various hardware (tacks, ringnails, brass screws, stem bands).
^All conveys with sale
The boat's in a fragile state and would need a trailer to transport, and/or be temporarily supported for transport.
All purchased/milled material (listed above, invoice of some of the materials in photos) will convey with the sale. I am pricing the canoe only to be compensated for all of my purchased materials.

Serial number 10577 is a 17 foot long, CS grade, XX model (an early version of the modern Otca model) with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, twenty inch maple decks, spruce thwarts, a keel, outside stems, a painter ring, a floor rack, and two spruce paddles (one was 5 feet long and the other was 5 feet 9 inches long). It was built between January, and March, 1909. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on March 29th, 1909 to Dayton, Ohio.
The interiors and bones are beautiful. However, restoration is needed: the canvas needs replacement or fiberglassing, the seats need re-caning, a small amount of the woodwork and trim might have been replaced or need replacing.
