The Wooden Canoe Heritage Association's Old Town Square Stern Classified Listing Archive
title - Old Town 1946 square stern canoe in superb original condition.
Price - Unsure of true value but am asking $5900 and will consider offers.
location - Boothbay, Maine
description - Built in 1946 for a Mr. Harvey of West Sullivan, Maine, and returned to the factory for repairs in May of 1964 according to the build card from the Old Town factory (copy furnished). I acquired her two years ago in pristine condition for her age, needing only a fresh coat of bottom paint and varnish. She is completely dry and motors very nicely with only 4hp. My understanding is she was barn stored for years, and she looks it! I have no knowledge of how many of these were constructed, but few enough I suspect, and fewer, if any, remaining. So a square stern of this vintage in this condition with the beautiful long deck and special order rear side seat probably make her one of a kind.
condition - I would consider her in excellent original condition, showing only minor nicks for all her years.
Restorable 1953 Old Town Square Stern Rowboat w/Trailer
$700 or best offer
Damariscotta (midcoast) Maine
This is a gem for anyone interested in restoring a wood and canvas boat. It's a 1953 Old Town 16' Square Stern rowboat/skiff. The Old Town catalog indicates that this boat can be used with at 2.5 to 10 HP motor.
Most of the wood is in good shape. In addition to the outside gunwale, I'm seeing two ribs and a few planks that would need to be replaced before recovering in canvas. The brass/bronze fittings are all there including the stem and keel bands and original swivel oarlocks, the latter being rare and expensive to replace. The boat originally came with sponsons, but as is the case with many other canoes and boats, these were removed by their owners.
Price includes Shoreline trailer in very good condition. It needs to have wiring replaced or repaired.
