Better late than never? The Old Town with serial number 64985 is a 20 foot long canoe so that isn't a good match. My guess is that you actually have serial number 64905. This is double end boat model in CS (Common Sense or the middle) grade with open spruce gunwales, maple decks, maple thwarts, maple seats, a keel, outside stems, and a floor rack. It was built between January and April, 1921. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on June 15th, 1921 to somewhere in New York state. Scans showing both of these build records can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your boat. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson,
Thank you for the information. B and I purchased this boat and it is in the dry to say the least. We would love to be reunited with the oars etc if anyone has some period correct 1921 hardware. Likewise 64905, is in good hands!

We would love to be reunited with the oars etc. if anyone has some period correct 1921 hardware.

This looks nice. Period correct oars could be either spoon or straight blades as shown at http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?attachments/1084/ from the 1930 catalog. Reproductions of the oars are available from https://www.shawandtenney.com/product-category/traditional-oars and https://www.shawandtenney.com/productdisplay/patent-swivel-rowlocks has the oarlocks. These also show up on eBay and other auction sites regularly. It can be particularly difficult to find old ones with period correct decals as shown at http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?attachments/4095/ since these have usually been worn off from use. The tan style would be correct for your boat. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/product-page/old-town-canoe-company-accessory-decal for vinyl reproductions of these. Good luck,

Benson
