Old town 195185

The Old Town canoe with serial number 195185 is a 16 foot long Chipewyan model that weighed 67 pounds. It was built in May, 1973. The original exterior color was avocado. It shipped on May 17th, 1973 to Wilmington, Delaware. The back side of this scan shows that it was purchased on May 22nd, 1973 and stayed in Wilmington, Delaware. Scans of both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

I think might have bought this Canoe here in Murphy, Texas. The serial number is matching and the HIN tag which is almost torn shows last 4 letters as "..M73J" which I believe corrsponds to 1973 May. So it is matching the canoe discussed here.
I am really interested in knowing more about this canoe. Also the gunwale is cracked in multiple places. Is it possible to get replacement Gunwale for this Canoe?

The 1973 catalog page describing this model is shown at https://forums.wcha.org/attachments/45087/ but there isn't much more available. I don't know of a source for replacement gunwales. These are freqeuntly replaced with wooden gunwales. Good luck,

Benson
