New Paddle

My lovely Bride notified me several months ago that I needed a canoe. We have 2 nephews and I would be the one teaching them about the outdoors. Hmmm...let the search begin!

Fiberglass...YUCK!
Plastic? Yeah...right...
Kevlar...Roylex...TT...ARGH!!!

Then I found a Patrick Smith wood and canvas handmade canoe. A work of art! The 17' Bristol Girl was made in 1997 in Naples, NY in the heart of the Finger Lakes.

The boys LOVED IT! We cruised around Tampa Bay finding all kinds of things...redfish, stingrays, mullet, and an assortment of beautiful birds.

I took it out a few times since that day and it was missing something...a handmade paddle. So the hunt started and I found 2 pieces of cherry that would fit the bill. Several hours of handwork resulted in an Ottertail design I found on this site: http://paddlemaking.blogspot.com/

The following pics are a historical record of the birth of the Ottertail.

Thanks for your time and
Best regards to all!
