Title: Early 1900s Robertson 17 ft wood canoe

Location: Farmington, Maine
Description: Fully restored in 1990s, woodwise the hull is in very good shape. The canvas has separated at the bow and may need to be recanvassed. Has alway been stored inside and don't believe that there are any leaks.
Has been identified as a Robertson from the early 1900s by a knowledgeable WCHA person, and identified as from the Boston canoe builders by the Island Falls Canoe Co.
Condition: Needs minor restoration; generally good.

7. Sturdy veteran canoe built in Auburndale, MA, for service on the Charles River
at Norumbega Park, where a large boathouse offered canoes and row boats for hire
starting in 1897 and surviving into the 1950s. (see pics). The exact launch date is
not known, but the "cap rail" suggests it was an earlier product from Robertson’s
company.

Good Usable -- certainly
Excellent Original – yes, in that:
Wood’s all good (except some small sections of the "cap rail"
which I repaired with matching mahogany)
Stripped off old hull paint down to the canvas, filled some sections
Refreshed and refinished all the brightwork
But it was all there, canvas tight.
Carefully Restored
Of note:
It has been sheltered and lightly used since restoration in the 1990s
Canvas recently reprimed and painted using best products from Kirby's Paints, New Bedford

The Essex County Trail Association. has been given a canoe from White Rose Canoe, for silent auction at their fundraising event in Hamilton, MA on June 21st. It’s a circa 1917 J.R. Robertson that's in really good condition. I believe it's been stored indoors for years. It was repainted in 2013 by Kevin Martin of NH, who said it was not in need of any other work at the time. They are allowing bidding online and the canoe will be at their event on the 21st.
