Title of Ad: Kingsbury 16'
Price: $2000.00
Location: Lapeer, Michigan
Description/condition: This Kingsbury has a bit of history on the discussion forums. It had a motor mount, fiberglass, and a lovely coat of paint on the inside. I had the interior stripping done in Appleton, Wisconsin thanks to an incredible amount of help from Craig and Judy Kitchen. I did the rest and finished the restoration in 2019. I did backside rib repairs. One rib that is under the stem got a backside repair along with a thin lamination over the rib. Quality materials used; Latex filler, No.12 canvas, Marine spar, Kirby paint and primer. Trimmed with cherry and mahogany. Mahog kneeling thwarts. And a carry yoke because I'm quirky about that.
Age and builder unknown but possibly by Kingsbury or Waltham (Boston area). Builder's serial number is 294.
Solomons, MD.
Length 16 ft
Max beam 33 inches
Notable features: solid mahogany decks, torpedo stems, covered rails, wide shaped thwarts (one has one straight edge, assume for a backrest but canoe does not come with a backrest).
This canoe has been repainted in the past but otherwise appears to be mostly in good original condition. The canoe needs to be recanvassed as there are slow leaks in the fore and aft stems.
Asking $1,500 or best offer.
1900's Waltham Courting Canoe
$4,500
Billerica, MA
Restoration of a 1900s Kingsbury or Waltham, Courting Canoe. Serial # 717-17; Restored in 2016 by Northwoods Canoe company, Atkinson, Maine by Rollin Thurlow. The unique shape of the scroll work on the decks and the extended shape of the stem, the wide romantic thwarts, the method of planking the boat, and the extensive use of Mahogany trim all indicate that the boat is from the Charles River area in Mass. This style of canoe was very popular along the Charles River in the early 1900s. Very few records are left of the several companies that built along the Charles River, but the boat seems to be from the Waltham Canoe company or the Kingsbury company, as both had very similar canoe styles.
Also included is a 7-page booklet by Rollin Thurow of the complete rebuild
Excellent Fully Restored
