7. Description Developed in 1987 from an early E.M. White design by Jerry Stelmok at Island Falls Canoe, the Willow is 15' of pure paddling pleasure for the intermediate and expert paddlers.
Normally used solo, its arched rocker bottom makes Willow responsive to your whispered commands. Her narrow entry and lightweight make Willow a very quick boat as well.
Willow may be outfitted for general pleasure and light tripping, or set up for Freestyle paddling.
This is a fast and highly responsive canoe designed for experienced paddlers. It is NOT a canoe that should be purchased by a newbie.
This canoe was built on Island Falls' mold at a Wooden Boat Workshop about 20 years ago.
Overall the canoe is in very good condition.
The canvas had several tears in it so I removed it and lightly cleaned the hull.
It appears to have originally outfitted with a kneeling thwart, when I got it there was a seat installed too far astern for my liking so I removed it - but still have it.
As expected, some of the planking on the bottom of the canoe should be replaced prior to recanvassing (or using Dacron for lighter weight) but the ribs are solid and I did not find any cracks.
There is a tiny chip out of the end of one of the cherry outwales which is probably someplace in my driveway - it came off when I removed the outwales to cleanly remove the canvas. I have pieces of cherry you can have for scarfing the piece in if I don't find the chip (doubtful - shale driveway).
The canoe is available for pick up near Quick Chek on Rt 211 in Middletown, NY

Ad Title: Jerry Stelmok, Island Falls Lightweight 16'
Condition: Good Usable
Description: This is a beautiful Island Falls 16' that I believe is a lightweight version of the Guide, with a little less depth and the beam than the standard Guide. Jerry no longer makes this model. From what Jerry can remember he made it in the 80's. I bought it from the man who got it new from Jerry. It is not a perfect canoe, but it is absolutely beautiful and absolutely wonderful to paddle. It has a shellac bottom that has some age and could probably use a sand and a new coat of shellac, and there are a couple of small tears in the canvas. I talked to a canoe restorer and he recommended just putting small patches over these and as this is the original canvas with Jerry's old filler it would probably last another ten years. I really love that you can tell it was made with an abundance of skill and attention to the smallest detail, all the way down to the Mahogany outwales. Jerry is certainly a master of his craft.
I am in Midcoast Maine until the end of the month, and the boat can be picked up there.
