1. Title = 17' Prospector by Headwaters Canoe Co.
2. Price = $1200
6. Location = Minneapolis MN
7. Description =
This is a 17' Prospector model canoe built around 2009. It has white cedar planks and ribs, white ash gunwhales and deck plates, and handwoven leather seats. It was built by master canoe-builder Hugh Stewart at Headwaters Canoe Company, in the Temagami region of Ontario (Hugh and his wife Cathie ran Camp Temagami for many years). I got the boat from Darrow Camp, another traditionalist canoe tripping camp out in Maine, when the camp closed down. The boat has been on quite a few long expeditions. The boat is fully functional with no major damage but it has had some cracked planks (splinted with sheet metal as seen in the pictures) and many patches in the canvas over the years. This is a big canoe, perfect for longer trips or for bringing kids and pets along. Prospectors are deep and wide, designed to carry lots of gear and food on long expeditions. The hull shape is also designed for long distance travel through varied terrain - wind, waves, rapids, etc. It has a "best of all worlds" mix of flatwater and whitewater features and curves. I'm excited to pass this work of art on to the next person that will care for and appreciate it. Asking $1200. These canoes cost $6-7K new (www.headwaterscanoes.ca).
