Chestnut Prospector Fort

1963/64 Prospector. 16 foot. Original except bow seat and lengthened thwart to remove classic Chestnut rail pucker. No cracked wood or ribs. No splices or repairs.
The canoe is fresh and ready to use. It is in good plus usable condition. It paddles very nicely. If I didn't need room, I would keep it.
I applied 3 coats of Epiphanes Spar varnish. The canvas was painted with three coats of Epiphanes with the final coat knocked back with a flattener on the final coat.
If you are into hockey trivia, the original owner was the scorekeeper for the US/Soviet ice hockey game at the 1984 Olympics.

Original chestnut pal 16 ft form made of fiberglass from the factory. The metal ribands have been removed. The slots for the ribs are straight and are spaced for consistent placement of each rib, very interesting. Slots for the stem and inside rail are also embedded in the glass.

This extraordinary wood canvas canoe is designed for deep woods paddling. Built with high sides, a yoke for portages, and a shoe keel, ideal for open water and lakes.
This canoe has been meticulously maintained and is in pristine condition. Built in the 1970s by the well-known Chestnut Co. in New Brunswick, Canada and was one of its best-selling canoes. A rare find.
