Warning, a sad story

Wooden Canoes are in the Blood
I recently got a very nice Carleton to refinish. The fellow I got it from had the Carleton medallion at a different location. Rather then drive another 20 minutes I simply said "mail it to me." Big mistake. Really big mistake. The envelope arrived yesterday in a USPs plastic bag that gave appologies for the damaged mail. It seems the small brass tag was placed between folded newspapers and put in a first class envelope. All under 1oz. But the USPS automatic mail sorting machine didn't like the small metal tag and so it chewed the envelope and contents. I received a shredded envelope but no tag. Somewhere in New Hampshire a mailroom floor has a Carleton tag and possibly a well mangled one at that.
Moral, even if it looks safe and simple, send hard objects in a padded mailer. Consider insuring them if you value the contents.
