Curious about Wooden Canoes
...for your help here with previous requests! This one is NOT about a traditional canoe, so please feel free to tell me to go away (or suggest other options) but aRoyalex Old Town 'limited edition'. Anyway, any possible info on serial number XTC85569F202 would really be appreciated. Im really curious about why it was built with short thwarts instead of decks, as well as its general history. Thanks again!

The scanned records go to just over 250,000 from the early 1980s so no one here can provide the build record for your canoe from 2002. The hull identification number ends with an encoded date. See http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.htm for information about how to interpret the date information. The limited edition information from the 2004 catalog is attached below. There may not be much else that anyone here can offer. Sorry,

Benson

The carry (short) thwarts were probably used instead of decks to save weight, and possibly cost, to the customer. Just a guess on my part, really, so take it with the proverbial grain of salt.
