Howie - that's nice! Very, very nice. I like the seat backs, too. May I ask what is the make and model of your trailer? Al D

Thanks for the kind words. The trailer is a Trailex model SUT 200-S. I bought on eBay a few years ago. Don't see any for sale at the moment though. I like it... but I wish the cradle pads holding the canoe were wider so they'd span more ribs. Should get off my ass and modify them myself I suppose...

Howie,

Looking mighty fine! Thanks for the inspiration! I should finish stripping the varnish out of my 1963 OT 50# tomorrow.
Hope to have it in the water by Fall. Mine will rest on a 1959 TeeNee trailer, to be restored when the 50 pounder is finished. One project at a time.

Thanks for sharing!

Blake

That's gorgeous! I love the honey color of the ribs and planking. You must have caned a lot of seats. I've only done one and I found it hard to get the bottom to look as good as the backs of your back supports. It's a beauty!

Thanks Scott. Good talking with you the other day BTW. And take a look at my new posting this AM - got 2 new projects!

Howie it looks great. Did you have a chance to weigh it yet? I saw the rainbow that you just delivered and it also looks great. The new owners are thrilled to have it back in the family.

Yup. It's 62lbs. Guess the term '50 Pounder' isn't meant to be taken literally. Interesting though, they took great pins to make it as light as can be: the decks are teeny short and the planking is just about 0.120" or about 25% lighter than the typical 3/32"

So that's YOUR 50 #er I saw in a google search. First one up for images. That's one sweet looking boat, sir.

I'm looking at a '64 right now. According to the ad the wood's great, just needs new canvas and seats re-caned. If I can coordinate things with the seller I might grab it.

Thankfully Benson's stable is full right now. :D

Cool - Thanks for letting me know! I sold that 15 footer last year to a fella in Pennsylvania. But I still have a 1960 13 foot 50 Pounder I finished back in 2013. Also sold a 1939 11 foot 50 Pounder that same year. They made a cute couple!

Thye do make acute couple. lol

I'm thinking a pair of 11 footers strapped to your feet would make great aqua shoes. :)

Nice work Howie, cool seat backs, my 50# is a 1918, closed gunnel, was going to make similar seat backs but other half wanted to sit lower after her first ride so made her a chair that doubles as a nice beach chair.
