Canoe nut
Picked it up today as a rescue.
Turns out to be in nice shape, didn't find any cracked ribs, outwales will need some splicing but that's all I found so far.

What do I have?

Thanks,
Russ

Congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 131206 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Yankee model with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, a keel and a floor rack. It was built between December, 1940 and February, 1941. The original exterior paint color was orange with a black hair line stripe. You may be able to do some paint archeology if you have the original canvas. This may have been similar to the one shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design20.gif with a thinner stripe which was known as the design number 20. It was shipped on May 14th, 1941 to the New York department store Macy & Company at the store’s warehouse in Long Island City, NY. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

It was recovered at some point - the canvas that was on it was red with a HEAVY layer of orange on top.
This makes FOUR Yankees I've had.
Hopefully I can find a good home for it as I only want the 50# canoe I have and have no desire to restore another canoe..

I believe that my registration is paid up through next year. How do I check?

Thanks again,
Russ

Thanks, I am getting the Journal - was pretty sure I "re-upped" for two years.
Recently bought older Journals at an Estate sale April 1997-February 2012, only a few missing. Have been enjoying "catching up."

Thank you for all your help.
