Greetings,

I recently took possession of an Old Town 15' canoe that has been in our family for quite some time, probably since new. Can you tell me anything about it's history? Thank you!

The Old Town canoe with serial number 174568 is a 15 foot long fifty pound model with a keel and narrow two and 3/4 inch planking. It was built between February and June, 1965. The original exterior paint color was pale blue. It shipped on July 22nd, 1965 to South Hamilton, Mass. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Canoes with a family history are always extra special. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
