I am thinking about buying a Kennebec 16ft canoe with serial number 16915 and would appreciate any information I can get about this.
Thank you. If I get the canoe, I look forward to using this site often!

Welcome, the Kennebec canoe with number 16915 is an 18 foot long Kennnebec model with mahogany rails as shown on page 213 of volume three in the Kennebec ledgers. It was planked by Roundy on November 28th, 1922. The canvas covering was applied by Tuttle on December 16th, 1922. The first filler coat was applied by Grant on December 16th, 1922. The second filler coat was applied by Tuttle on December 23rd, 1922. The rest of the row for this canoe on the second page is blank so it is not clear what the original color or shipping information might have been. A similar canoe with serial number 16935 is shown at http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?threads/9651/ and the information about this canoe is shown there on the sixth previous line.

These original Kennebec records are reproduced through the courtesy of the Maine State Museum. The microfilms and scans of these records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA). I hope that you will join the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. More information about Kennebec is available at http://www.wcha.org/store/historic-wood-canoe-and-boat-company-catalog-collection in the Historic Wood Canoe and Boat Company Catalog Collection. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck,

Benson
