Serial #10 12280

Curious about Wooden Canoes
My father owns an Old Town Canoe with this serial number, can anyone tell me anything about it? We have seen the original production card at Paul Smith's NY on July 28th 2004. We believe it was Benson Gray who was in possession of this disk, and would love a copy of the production card.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 12280 is a 16 foot long, CS grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with Western red cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash trim, spruce finish rails, and a keel. It was built between October, 1909 and February, 1910. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on February 10th, 1910 to Philadelphia, Pa. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

These scans were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck and I hope to see you again at the Assembly next year.

Benson
