Resident Artisan Position for Boat Builders

Greetings,

I'm reaching out because North House is currently recruiting for applicants for the 2022-2024 cohort of the Artisan in Development program! Perhaps you can think of other emerging artisans who should be encouraged to apply for the program.

Artisan Development Program:

  • Two-year professional learning and residency program for emerging craft artisans working in traditional crafts (see note below regarding focus areas)

  • Includes funding for studio, housing, living stipend, paid mentorship, travel to study in Scandinavia, professional development, materials/tools

  • Significant time for developing a body of work, travel to engage with mentors and show work, assistant and independent teaching opportunities

Openings: 2022-2024 Cohort (2 openings): September 1, 2022 through June 2024.

Focus Areas: We recognize that traditional craft artisans are often committed to multiple areas of craft. Successful resident artisans will be those who have the ability to balance their interests appropriately to accomplish the depth of learning they desire. Current possible core craft areas for focus include: fibers (felting, spinning, knitting), basketry, leatherwork, wood (turning, timber framing, boat building, carving, building), and foods. Other areas of emerging interest to the Folk School may be proposed, provided that they have a strong connection to traditional northern craft.

Application Deadline: March 31st at noon CST

Resident Artisans are emerging craftspeople with significant experience in the craft area(s) they are pursuing. We want to find people who would benefit from a concentrated time of development as an independent craftsperson and educator at this time in their careers. More detailed qualifications are listed in the application materials on North House Folk School's website.
