    Gentlemen,
I haven't yet started on the restoration of my 1924 Guide Special, but now I'm seriously thinking of picking up a second project. Is there something wrong with me? What can you tell me about #75524-17. Thanks so much in advance for providing this invaluable service. I'm much obliged.
    Sincerely,
    Jim Duclos

The Old Town canoe with serial number 75524 is a 17 foot long, CS grade, Charles River model with Western red cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch trim, and outside stems. It was built between December, 1922 and January, 1923. The original exterior paint color was dark red. It shipped on March 10th, 1923 to Washindton, D. C. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. I believe that anything worth doing is worth doing several times. This clearly applies to canoe restorations so have fun. If you were looking for someone to talk you out of another canoe project then you have certainly come to the wrong place! Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

    Benson

    Thanks, Benson,
I'm sure this is the build order for the canoe I saw advertised. I'm going to go have a look at it this weekend. I have one more question, though. For planking it says W.C.; this evidently means Western Cedar, what would it say there if it were White Cedar?
    Thanks again, Jim Duclos
