This canoe is one of two very old Old Towns sold at the WCHA auction last week. It had the copy of a build sheet laying in it saying 10147, 16", left the factory painted red. There was no reason for me to doubt it at the time, as this canoe is 16' and specks of red underneath dark blue paint are visible. However, following stripper and gentle brushing, its serial number is 20147 - 16 - no doubt, identical on both stems. Please post the build record for this one. The gunwale caps and outside trim strips are now both off in many pieces, very punky, but underneath, the inwales are in pretty good shape. All 4 inwale tips need splices and two new decks will have to be made. Decks had been secured with steel screws 
, and there are small steel nails holding the very thin rib tips. The rear seat might be salvageable, probably is original, as it is in its proper position held by what appear to be very corroded brass bolts with the heads recessed into the inwales. I see only one set of nail holes, so this gunwale cap had not been off in 100 years. It will need some ribs, but the planking is in good shape. A good wintertime project. Tom McCloud
