Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hello,
I was hoping someone could give me build information on the above Old Town. I know it was built in 1913 and sold to a Dorothy Patterson in 1917. That is just about all I know about the canoe itself. Please advise.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 26313 is a 15 foot long, CS grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with western red cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch trim, spruce finish rails, and a keel. It was built between March and May, 1913. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on August 18th, 1913 to Dorothy Patterson in Number Four, New York. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
