New here and looking for information on a beautiful Old Town canoe I inherited. Serial number is 174416. I don’t really have a use for it, but hoping to learn more and find a new owner to love it!

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 174416 is an 18 foot long guide model with a keel and narrow two and 3/4 inch planking. It was built between December, 1964 and February, 1965. The original exterior paint color was G. S. (Guide's Special) green. It shipped on March 12th, 1965 to Eynon, Pennsylvania. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. A listing at http://www.wcha.org/classifieds is usually the best way to find a good new home for a canoe like this. See the outline at http://forums.wcha.org/index.php?threads/16513/ for a brief description of the process. The information at https://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?threads/57/ may help if you don't have a price in mind. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the sale,

Benson
