Curious about Wooden Canoes
Old Boats at Minneapolis Boat Show

The Minneapolis Boat Show in January 2005 is a time to forget about the winter snows and cold temperatures and dream of warm, sunny days on the water. Nestled amongst the brand new boats will be a display of eight antique and classic wooden boats. The Bob Speltz Land-O-Lakes chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society (BSLOL) volunteer members are bringing boats to the show. The event takes place at the Minneapolis Convention Center January 19th thru 23rd.

In the unique display of boats that harken back to a more gentile time will be:
· 1937 Chris-Craft 26 ft. Clipper Craft cabin cruiser
· 1947 Chris-Craft 16 ft. Rocket
· 1942 Century 17 ft. Sea Maid barrelback
· 1966 Century 21 ft. Coronado hardtop
· 1954 Penn Yan 12 ft. Swift outboard motor boat
· 1930 Glen Buck 12 ft. outboard runabout
· 1954 Greavette 18 ft. Dispro
· 1954 Greavette 24 ft. Streamliner

The 1930 Glen Buck runabout is a homemade boat built in Minnesota and patterned after a Garwood of the time period. It is in original condition having never been restored. The Chris-Craft Clipper Craft cabin cruiser was originally delivered to a boat dealer on Lake Minnetonka in 1937. She has been on the Mississippi and St. Croix rivers since the early 1960s. The 1942 Century Sea Maid is of the unique barrelback design and is the ultimate in classic wooden runabouts of her time.

In addition to the classic boats a small display of old outboard boat motors will be included along with a static display of the Minnehaha street car boat raised from the depths of Lake Minnetonka a number of years ago.
