Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, so much!

Good morning,

In my discs of the build records, your number is missing. The scans go from 149933 to 149935. If you post more photos members of this forum could probably identify the grade and model. It appears that canoe was built in the 1947 - 1948 time frame. Sorry.

Curiouser and curiouser... It is 17’ wood and canvas with sponsons and and sailing package with wooden mast & Lee boards.

The canvas is currently painted blue, but I don’t know what the original color may have been. It has some copper on the ends that does not appear to be original. I’ve seen an old advertisement for the sailboats, but it doesn’t seem to fit any of those descriptions.

I stopped by the factory yesterday and the Old Town with serial number 149934 is a 17 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, HW (heavy water) model with western red cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, a keel, a floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between December, 1947 and April, 1948. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on April, 22nd, 1948 to Boonton, New Jersey with four other canoes. The back side of this record shows that it was damaged in shipment and came back for repairs on August 17th, 1948. The back side of the build record for number 149951 shows that there was some confusion about which of the four canoes were damaged when the problem was first reported. There was also a note about a camp in Vermont from 1951 that may not be related to this canoe.

Scans showing both of these build records can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below. These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
