Curious about Wooden Canoes
I'm about to start a position at a boarding academy in Finland offering activities/classes for the students after school is out. The weather here takes a turn for the worse during the winter, so indoor activities are needed. I'd love to work with the guys here on restoring or even building wooden canoes. I think it would be a great way to keep them out of trouble on the long, dark winter days.

It looks like I might try to start with a "Six Hour Canoe" first. I want something that will go quick and pique their interest in a hurry.

I also have a very limited (almost non-existent) budget. I know that restoring and building wooden canoes is no cheap process either.

Does this sound like something that is possible? How would you go about locating and acquiring canoes for a project like this. Obviously they won't produce museum quality canoes, and it won't happen fast either. I don't think it would be wise to offer refurbs to private owners.

Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
