Howdy all!
I just picked up a canoe from a buddy of mine.
The HIN is XTC11049M76H which, if I am understanding things correctly, would make the serial number 211049.
I would be very grateful for any and all info you could provide as my friend knew nothing at all about it.
Thank you kindly!

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 211049 is a 16 foot long Chipewyan model that weighed 64 pounds. It was built in December, 1975. The original exterior color was blue. It shipped on March 31st, 1976 to Poughkeepsie, New York. The back side of this card shows that it was purchased on March 25th, 1976 and the warranty card was returned from Poughkeepsie, New York. Scans of both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. The scanned catalogs available from http://www.wcha.org/store/complete-old-town-canoe-company-catalog-collection include the ones from 1975 and 1976 if you want more details. The covers are shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/covers/large-75.gif and http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/covers/large-76.gif if you are curious. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Happy paddling,

Benson
