Hello all. My husband and I have a canoe given to my husband by his father. We are looking for some history on the canoe such as how old it is, previous owner, etc. It's a Carleton wtih 18-14530 stamped on the inside of the front and back. My husband (Bryan) loves the canoe and is hoping to get its history! Thanks for any help.

Good Morning,
I'm sure Benson or someone will get with you soon about the information you are looking for. I just wanted to welcome you and let you know there is a new Chapter in the Kentucky-Tennessee area. I sent you some information that you can find in your in box.
Let me know if I can be of any help.
Norm

Welcome and congratulations, the Carleton canoe with serial number 14530 is an 18 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Indian Princess model with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, a keel, outside stems, a floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between January and March, 1920. The original exterior paint color was light green with a 5/8 inch black stripe, edged with gold. It shipped on May 12th, 1922 to New York City. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link under the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Please attach a photograph if the original paint design is still showing. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
