I am looking for any information on this wooden canvas canoe which I am currently having restored. Thanks for your help.

The Kennebec canoe with serial number 18930 is a 17 foot long Kennebec model type 2A as shown on the top of page 168 of volume three in the Kennebec ledgers. It was planked by Mansell on May 1st, 1926. This was also the day when the canvas covering was applied by Tuttle and the first filler coat was applied by Shaw. The rails were applied by King on July 31st, 1926. The original color was dark green. It shipped to location "26-1026" on July 29th, 1926. This location is probably an order number but we don't currently have enough information to identify it. It is not likely that it shipped three days before it was railed so one of these dates must be an error.

The scans of these build records can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below. These original Kennebec records are reproduced through the courtesy of the Maine State Museum.

The microfilms and scans of these records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA). I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

More information about the Kennebec models can be found in the Kennebec catalogs contained on the Historic Wood Canoe and Boat Company Catalog Collection CD available from http://store.wcha.org/The-Historic-...pany-Catalog-Collection-Version-2-CD-ROM.html in the store.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
