    THE SYMBOL OF SETTLEMENT, INDUSTRY AND TRANSPORTATION IN THE MIDWEST HAS HISTORICALLY BEEN THE WATERS. COME AND JOIN YOUR FELLOW WCHA GREAT RIVERS CHAPTER MEMBERS AS WE LAUNCH OUR BEAUTIFUL CANOES IN THIS GREAT GENTLE RIVER.

    SHARE YOUR PADDLING EXPERTISE WITH YOUR FELLOW CANOEISTS AND BRUSH UP ON YOUR OWN TECHNIQUES AND PRACTICES. QUALIFIED INDIVIDUALS WILL JOIN US TO INSTRUCT BASIC TO MORE ADVANCED PADDLE SKILLS.

    GATHERING TIME: 8:00 AM

    LOCATION OF EVENT: (FIND THIS SITE ON PAGE 64 OF THE WI ALTAS & GAZETTEER AT ABOUT B.5 & 2.5) STARTING AT HWY 51, TAKE EXIT 175 HWY 34 WEST, IT TURNS SOUTH AFTER ABOUT 1 MILE. CONTINUE OVER THE BRIDGE TO HWY C. TAKE C WEST (RIGHT) ALL THE WAY PAST HWY O SOUTH, KEEP GOING TO THE HWY O NORTH SPUR. TAKE HWY O NORTH TO HICKORY ROAD. TURN RIGHT (EAST) ON HICKORY ROAD. TAKE HICKORY ROAD TO DAM ROAD. GO SOUTH ON DAM ROAD ABOUT ONE MILE, TURN EAST (LEFT) ON SOUTH DAM ROAD. Ivy road goes straight ahead here, don’t go there. TAKE SOUTH DAM ROAD EAST ABOUT 2 MILES AND SOUTH ABOUT 1 MILE TO EAU PLEINE RESEVOIR LAUNCH. THE ARE OF THE RIVER IS MORE LIKE A LAKE WHICH IS PART OF THE GEORGE W. MEAD WILDLIFE AREA. LOTS OF LITTLE ISLANDS AND BAYS TO EXPLORE.

    THERE IS ALSO GOOD FISHING HERE SO YOU MAY WANT TO PREPARE FOR THAT AS WELL.

    BRING PFD, PIE FOR THE AUCTION, CANOE, PADDLES, LUNCH, DRINK, SKILLS & TIPS, DRY CLOTHES, WATER SHOES, BINOCULARS, AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU THINK YOU WANT TO HAVE ALONG. AS ALWAYS DRESS FOR THE CHANGING WEATHER.
