88721-15 posted on Glens Falls, NY Craigslist

The Old Town canoe with serial number 88721 is a 15 foot long, AA (or top) grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, a keel, outside stems, and a floor rack. It was built between November, 1925 and June, 1926. The original exterior paint color was moss green with a half inch gold stripe and Greek ends. This may have been similar to the blue version shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design17.gif which was known as the design number 17. It shipped on July 2nd, 1926 to Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that this canoe could have another number or be from another manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe during a detailed inspection. The pictures at https://glensfalls.craigslist.org/boa/d/old-town-15-ft-trapper-canoe/6263537310.html look good but the outside stems and canvas covering may be missing. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck,

Benson
