LOVES Wooden Canoes
Busy making a work plan for my grandfather's canoe. 21 broken ribs, 10 midship and 11 in the stern with rotten tips with a bit of planking to replace. The ribs are a mix of plain and quarter sawn. I need make the trip and buy some quarter sawn cedar. Also need to cut some batten strips. Gramps had a "custom paint scheme, light brown over copper bottom paint. Gave it a very different look in the sun. While he didn't overtly brag he made sure when asked what the color was that the questioner understood it was "special". The build sheet only states "Design # 23". But it really wasn't as it was all brown with the gold stripe, leaf and name Manitou in white letters between the rub rails and gunwale.
