18' Wood Canoe Manufactured by E.M. White & Co
This 18’ wooden canoe was purchased by my Father-in-Law in about 1960 when he purchased a camp on a pond near Holden, Maine. Both the canoe and the camp have been in our family ever since. According to family members, the canoe was purchased from another camp owner on the Pond whose family moved away in the 1970s, so the history of the canoe prior to the 1960s is not available. Family members have confirmed that when purchased it had a canvas covering. In the early 1980s, the outside of the canoe was fiberglassed and restored by Harold P. Roberson at his boat building yard in Bradley, ME. Mr. Robertson had recently left his long-time job as foreman at Old Town Canoe and opened his own boat building and restoration business. He was very enthusiastic about restoring this particular E.M. White canoe. Although the exact date of manufacture is not known, I believe it dates back at least to the 1940s.
