16' Chestnut Pal
I bought this canoe last fall and enjoyed paddling it. Since then I have repainted the exterior with Kirby's paint, refinished the gunnels with Epifanes varnish, and replaced the seats, yoke, and thwarts with new cherry versions.
It paddles just fine, but there are some issues to be aware of:
- several planks and two ribs are cracked (see pictures)
- there are two patches in the canvas (see pictures)
- one outwale is cracked (see pictures)
As far as I can tell, the canoe does not leak. The spots with cracked planking are rigid.
I am open to letting someone paddle it before buying, if the weather allows.
Note that this canoe is not marked as a Pal, but is 16'x34”.
I am selling because I need a tripping canoe more than a pleasure canoe. I would swap for a 17' wood and canvas prospector, or an 18' kevlar tripping hull.
